Life can often take it's toll on teeth - accidents or disease can result in teeth being lost . This can have a huge impact on everyday quality of life and can really affect self confidence. If you are looking for a long term option to replace one or more of your teeth then implants could be the perfect solution.
What is a dental implant?
Implants are titanium
screws that are placed in your jaw, onto which a porcelain
crown is fixed. This makes it possible to permanently
replace missing teeth without touching the adjacent teeth.
Implants are the closest thing to having back your own
teeth. In addition implants can replace or secure badly
fitting and uncomfortable dentures allowing you to once
again eat whatever you like and improve your quality of
life and self confidence.
What are the advantages of dental implants?
Implants are the most natural solution for missing teeth. They are fixed as securely as natural teeth and have the appearance and function of natural teeth. Conventional solutions for missing teeth such as bridges require the neighbouring teeth to be ground down to stumps in order to support the new teeth. As implants are inserted directly into the jaw bone the healthy teeth are preserved.
How can dental implants be used?
Missing single tooth
The dental implant replaces the function of the lost tooth root and acts as a post for the implant crown. The implant transmits the chewing force from the tooth crown to the jaw bone, helping to prevent the jaw bone from receding. Fixed implant-borne teeth not only look like your own teeth, they also feel like them.
Several missing teeth
A gap involving several teeth should be closed rapidly in order to prevent bone loss and malposition of the remaining teeth. A fixed bridge attached to dental implants ensures optimal stability an aesthetically and functionally convincing result. Grinding the neighbouring healthy teeth is not necessary.
Completely toothless jaw
If all the teeth are missing in the upper or lower jaw dental implants can be used to provide optimal stability for anchoring a removable denture. The denture remains firmly in place but can be removed for cleaning. This can provide the denture wearer with the confidence that the denture won't come loose whilst talking or eating. Alternatively an implant-borne row of teeth can be screwed in place
